Job Overview
Embedding VC is hiring a Founding AI Engineer to join a fast-growing, pre-seed startup building autonomous, agent-based enterprise software. This is a full-time, on-site role in San Francisco with flexibility for work-from-home, focused on designing and shipping core AI systems from the ground up.
Embedding VC is an early-stage venture fund that works closely with founders at the earliest stages of company creation. Beyond investing, the firm embeds directly with teams to help recruit, build, and scale founding engineering talent. This role supports one of Embedding VC’s portfolio companies operating at the intersection of developer tools, intelligent automation, and applied reasoning systems.
This is a rare opportunity to join as an early founding engineer, shape product direction from zero to one, and help define a new category of AI-native enterprise software.

Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build core systems that enable autonomous testing, reasoning, and decision-making.
- Design and ship agentic AI systems that interact with software, browsers, and devices.
- Prototype and productionize intelligent automation components.
- Collaborate closely with founders on product roadmap, architecture, and early technical culture.
- Experiment with novel context-engineering and reasoning techniques for AI agents.
- Take ideas from prototype to production with high ownership and velocity.
Requirements / Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience building production software in early-stage environments.
- Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript.
- Solid understanding of system design and full-stack fundamentals.
- Deep curiosity about AI reasoning, agentic systems, and applied automation.
- Ability to work independently and move quickly in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Strong collaboration skills and willingness to grow into a technical leadership role.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with AI agents, automation frameworks, or reasoning-based systems.
- Background in developer tools, infrastructure, or enterprise software.
- Prior experience at a startup or pre-seed company.
- Interest in shaping both product direction and engineering culture from day one.

Benefits
- Base salary: $120,000 – $180,000 per year
- Equity: 0.5% – 2.0% ownership stake
